At Crispin, we want every young person to achieve academically, but we believe a great education is about much more than examination results.
THRIVE is our approach to Personal Development.
It brings together the experiences, opportunities, knowledge and support that help our students become confident, compassionate and resilient young people, ready to make a positive contribution to their community and prepared for life beyond Crispin.
From joining a club, performing on stage or representing a sports team, to becoming a student leader, completing work experience, taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or trying something completely new during THRIVE Week, we want every student to discover interests, develop skills and experience success beyond the classroom.
At the heart of THRIVE is a simple ambition:

What does it mean to THRIVE?
Our Personal Development programme reaches across the whole Crispin experience.
LEARN
Through Curriculum for Life, tutor time, assemblies, careers education and the wider curriculum, students develop the knowledge they need to navigate relationships, health, wellbeing, society and life beyond school.
BELONG
We want every student to feel known and valued. Our pastoral systems, tutor groups, House activities, inclusive opportunities and celebration of achievement help students feel part of the Crispin community.
GET INVOLVED
Clubs, sport, music, drama, creative activities, trips, visits, competitions, DofE and THRIVE Week give students opportunities to discover new interests and develop existing talents.
LEAD
Leadership is not reserved for a small number of Year 11 students. Students throughout Crispin can represent others, influence school life, mentor younger students and take responsibility.
EXPLORE
Careers education, employers, colleges, universities, alumni, work experience and independent guidance help students understand the possibilities available to them and make informed decisions about their future.
CONTRIBUTE
Students are encouraged to make a positive difference through charity, volunteering, mentoring, leadership, environmental activities and engagement with the wider community.

Student Leadership: Every voice matters
Leadership at Crispin is about far more than wearing a badge.
We want students to have genuine opportunities to contribute to their school, represent others, develop confidence and practise the communication, teamwork and organisational skills that they will need throughout their lives.
Leadership opportunities exist across Years 7–11 and include:
- Head Students
- Senior Prefects and Prefects
- Student Council representatives
- Head of Year Student Leaders
- Subject Student Leaders and Ambassadors
- Peer Mentors
- Inclusivity and School Community Leaders
- Charity and Fundraising Leaders
- leadership opportunities within The Willows
- support for younger students
- reading and homework support
- representation at school events and activities.
Our Student Council includes representatives from tutor groups who meet regularly and have opportunities to share the ideas and concerns of the students they represent, including directly with members of the Senior Leadership Team.
We want leadership at Crispin to be inclusive and accessible. Students do not have to be the loudest person in the room to make a difference.

Ultimately, THRIVE is about the young person we hope leaves Crispin at the end of Year 11.
We want our students to leave with strong qualifications – but also with much more.
We want them to have tried things they didn’t know they would enjoy; taken responsibility; experienced success and challenge; encountered different people and perspectives; contributed to their community; developed interests; made memories; understood the opportunities ahead of them; and grown in confidence about who they are.
That is why Personal Development is not an addition to education at Crispin.
It is an essential part of it.
