Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care helps students understand people: how we grow and change through our lives, what shapes us, and how we care for one another. Students explore physical, intellectual, emotional and social development at each life stage, and how factors and life events affect a person’s growth and wellbeing. They learn how health and social care services work, the barriers some people face in getting support, and the skills, attributes and care values that professionals must show.

In Year 11, they learn to measure and interpret indicators of health such as heart rate, blood pressure and BMI, and to create person-centred plans to improve someone’s health and wellbeing.

Compassion runs through the whole course, and students develop empathy, resilience and strong research and writing skills, with real insight into careers in health and social care.
