Homework
Progressing. Known. Challenged.
Homework is one of the simplest ways for students to make great progress. It’s a chance to practise what they’ve learned in lessons, remember it for longer and build confidence.
Evidence backs this up: research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) shows that homework gives secondary students around five extra months of progress over a school year- that’s huge impact from a few focused tasks each week.
Our Approach
At Crispin, we agree with the EEF: homework is a powerful tool for progress, but only when it has a clear purpose. Our staff will never set homework “for the sake of it.” When it is set, it matters, and it should be completed on time.
Where: All homework is set through the Assignments function in Microsoft Teams. Students should check their individual Class Teams regularly for tasks and updates.
When: Students will always have one week between a task being set and its hand-in date.
What to Expect
Lower School (Years 7–9): Homework will be set when it’s purposeful and meaningful. As a rough guide, expect no more than 30 minutes per subject per week.
Upper School (Years 10–11): Expect more. Homework will often focus on exam preparation, such as exam-style questions, past papers and creating revision resources.
Plan Ahead
Life gets busy. Clubs, sport, family and part-time commitments all compete for time. To help, we’ve provided a homework planning tool below. It’s not compulsory, but it can make juggling everything a lot easier.
